A new president for the International Mesothelioma Interest Group (IMIG) was recently announced. Steven Mutsaers, Ph.D. will be in charge of examining the molecular pathways regulating malignant mesothelioma growth. His research will be focused on examining regulation in serosal repair, adhesion, lung fibrosis and other diagnostic markers of the disease.
IMIG is comprised of an independent international group of scientists and clinicians working together to prevent and understand mesothelioma. The group holds conferences annually and they focus on researching ideas to develop improved treatment for mesothelioma patients.
Mutsaers is also a member of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) on the scientific board. He is an Associate Professor and Senior Researcher for the University of Western Australia.
Mutsaers replaces Dr. Hedy Lee Kindler who served as IMIG's president since 2006.
